History of La Antigua Guatemala:
Antigua Guatemala is located in the Valley of Panchoy 45 kilometers of the city of Guatemala approximately 1,530 meters above sea level. According to some historians, the word "Panchoy" comes from the cackchiquel language and means "dry lagoon" or "large lagoon". Many historians agree that the Valley of Panchoy was formerly a lake.
The city is surrounded to the North by the hills of Manchén and Candelaria, where one can enjoy a wonderful landscape. To the South, the Agua (water) Volcano rises 3,750 meters above sea level. The hills of Manzanillo and La Cruz rise to the East and the volcanoes of Acatenango and Fuego, each over 3,800 meters above sea level, tower over Antigua to the West.

Antigua Guatemala se encuentra en el Valle de Panchoy 45 kilómetros de la ciudad de Guatemala unos 1.530 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Según algunos historiadores, la palabra "Panchoy" proviene de la lengua Cackchiquel y significa "laguna seca" o "laguna grande". Muchos historiadores coinciden en que el Valle de Panchoy fue un lago.
La ciudad está rodeada al norte por las colinas de Manchén y Candelaria, donde se puede disfrutar de un maravilloso paisaje. Para el Sur, el Agua (agua) Volcán eleva 3.750 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Las colinas de Manzanillo y La Cruz, lugar en el Este y los volcanes de Acatenango y Fuego, cada uno más de 3.800 metros sobre el nivel del mar, torre de más de Antigua hacia el Oeste.
